The 6 th Asian apicultural Association International Conference on Problems and Prospects of Beekeeping in the New Millennium under the auspices of Asian Apicultural Association (AAA), Tamagawa University , Japan was organized by V Sivaram, President and Dr Anita M. Secretary, Century Foundation, in Bangalore from February 24 th to March 1 st , 2002 .

Attended by delegates from 34 countries all over the world, the conference was inaugurated by Shri N Viswanathan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, Govt of Karnataka, who felt that Beekeeping has immense potential as an agro based economic activity which provides employment to thousands of people in the rural areas generating additional income. The Conference Abstract document was released by Prof Mitsuo Matsuka, President of AAA, Japan .

The 225 papers received during the conference was discussed in the following technical sessions.

Apitherapy

A technical Visit for the delegates to a Single Tree comprising of about 300 Feral rock bee, Apis dorsata colonies was arranged.

Participants took a trip to see the Apis dorsata tree 

 The magnificent tree hosts hundreds of A. dorsata colonies each year

As part of the conference a World Apiexpo-2002 on Bee Products was organized by Century Foundation to disseminate knowledge on bees, beekeeping honey and other bee products.
